Bern addendum

Here are a few more pictures of Bern. Also, there's a video of Swiss parliamentarian Raymon Galli talking about the main boulevard in Bern. He makes a couple jokes no one really got, and then describes how the entire town burnt down and was rebuilt with stone and masonry.

Marc's Note: Bern is expensive! Even more so than normal in Switzerland. You kinda expect that in a nation's capital ($8.50 hotdog on the DC mall anyone?), but it's simply absurd here! We just came from Germany, where I got a 16" pizza for no joke 2€50 (~$4.20) The same pizza cost CHF 16 (~$16) in Bern. OMG.

Heidelberg

Today we had our first real "touristy" day in Europe! It was a great experience and a very welcome day of slightly less frantic powerwalking to the next tour or speaker! Heidelberg is a mid-sized city with a very active Altstatt (old city), castle, and a large University. In fact, Bucknell gets all of our German TAs and hosts an exchange program with this Universit䴮 (more after break)

Karlsruhe Media Museum

SNV30766.JPG

Today we were in Karlsruhe, a small University town in Germany with a unique circular road system centered around a rather new castle in the center of town. We visited the Media Museum here. It was.. interesting... (more after break)

So today we arrived in our second country, Germany, into the city of Stuttgart. This is their main train station, can you guess which major company has their HQ here? (more pictures after the break)

The Top of Mt. Pilatus

Today, we took a trip to the Transportation Museum in Luzern! It was remarkably extensive and covered all the forms of transportation I could think of and more. We also got to the top of Mt. Pilatus in the Swiss Alps!

Mount Pilatus

SNV30636.JPG

The Engr 290 group travelled to Luzern, Switzerland and took an exciting trip to Mount Pilatus, a massive peak in the Alps that overlooks the town. Here are videos of the gondola ride down half the mountain (admittedly kinda long) and the reaction of Kelsey and Danielle of what it was like up top while we went down the second, smaller gondola.
