Four airports later and I slept in my own bed! Being home feels good to the soul. My family, my house, my mom's food, my roads, my car, my dog. Even from the airplane America looked different; green and orderly.
But I really knew I was back stateside when no one tried to marry me or sell me anything in the airport! Life almost seems like two realities, each completely normal now, and I just switched back to the default. Not as disorienting as I expected actually.
Some of the best experiences I've ever had I left in Cairo. But I brought the lessons from them with me; they will never leave. Any chance to be totally alone in some place totally new gives you the opportunity to further establish yourself. Big questions in life became settled, not by conscious deliberation, but simply by a new perspective. Cairo was great to me, and I'm happy to say I loved every moment there. I'll be happy when I get a chance to go back.
If you are saddened to see an end to this little blog, don't be. Because I've got a whole new learning opportunity coming up: an Army ROTC internship in Seoul, South Korea! I depart in the middle of July. Pack your rainboots, you're coming with me to the 'Land of the Morning Calm' in monsoon season!
